Here are some testimonials from our clients:
Selene is AMAZING. She did a fantastic job on my wedding dress. My dress was 2 pieces (high waist skirt and corset) and she walked me through all the options of connecting it or not connecting and the bustle. I can be very indecisive and wasn't educated on bustles and wedding alterations and she was an expert in the fit and what needed to be done. She guided me through the process and was patient with me as I was nervous about making some decisions. I was also looking for a tailor who would charge reasonable based on what the dress actually needed (not the overpriced flat rate fees from most bridal alterations in NYC). She's so friendly and pleasant to work with and did and impeccable job. I have very high standards and neurotic about things being done well and she exceeded my expectations. HIGHLY recommend. I'm already planning to go back to have her alter a dress for another wedding I'm attending. Posted By: Katie L. |
Had a gown hemmed that was over 6inches too long and she did a fantastic job and very timely. Overall great experience. I will be back. Posted By: Melissa A. |
Armed with a heavily beaded Jenny Packham beauty, I was on the hunt for a capable seamstress to alter the gown to fit my 5'1 frame. Went to a few places before I arrived at Selene's Alteration. The price was right and they had experience with JP gowns, which was important to me. I paid $450 for hemming (inner silk sheath and outer beaded layer) as well as pulling up the outer layer from the shoulders. Selene's did a great job, especially with the shoulders. They were able to pull it up by creating a slight flutter sleeve, which I loved. When I compare photos of the dress on me prior and post alterations, it was seriously made to fit me perfectly. The only reason they lost a star is because I think they've actually gotten TOO popular/busy. When I picked up my dress at my 2nd fitting, they actually forgot to finish the hemming. I insisted I would wait and try on the dress again after they hemmed to be sure, and they seemed a little surprised that I would want to. The bride who had an appointment before mine actually came in and told me they forgot ALL about her dress - aka the complete alterations! They sent the poor girl to grab a bite of food while they finished it in an hour. If this is my wedding gown, I sure as heck would not want my alterations to be rush finished! I left before that bride got her gown but as I was leaving, 2-3 more brides started showing up for their appointments. Mind you, the space is pretty intimate but it felt crowded, fast! Selene's does a great job, but perhaps they should be a little more selective with their alterations so they don't leave any brides hanging! Overall, I am happy with how my alterations panned out! Selene is the best spot in the East Village for alterations and home to my go-to seamstress for over two years! Her customer service is impeccable, she is super focused on making sure I feel confident and comfortable. From bridesmaid dresses to cocktail dresses, I always leave the shop knowing I will look my best at my next event. Thank you!!! See you soon. :) Posted By: Rachel P. |
I purchased my dress off the rack from the Bridal Garden. I loved the 1920's style and it was in keeping with my garden wedding theme. I knew that the dress needed to be altered Bc there was a lot of bunching in the hip area. I found Selene through Yelp and scheduled an consultation. Selene had me try on the dress and explained to me what it was going to take to make the dress fit. I won't bore you with the details but I felt confident in her abilities to make the dress look like I imagined. On my wedding day I looked amazing and everyone loved my dress. Selene made the dress fit my body and added some elements to make me comfortable for that day. I wouldn't have looked as nice as I did if I'd went somewhere else. Thank you for everything!!! Selene did a great job in my bridal alteration. I am a quite short bride with a high-low gown. So, in my case, a low-lower gown. Selene made my gown a high-low gown again! I am very appreciative of her hard work and fair price. Posted By: Phoebe M. |
Where to begin... My daughter found her beautiful lace gown at RK Bridal. After reading bad reviews about their alterations ( and also getting a bad vibe when we went for a fitting after the gown came in); we decided that we needed to go elsewhere.Easier said than done! We took the gown home ( Staten Island) to a local tailor who supposedly could do "anything" and was told - No- I won't touch this gown! Panic set in- the wedding was now about 6 weeks away! went to yelp! and started reading reviews. Selena's reviews were all so wonderful so I gave her a call. From that first call when she reassured me that she could work with the lace hem to the day we picked up the finished gown Selena was a pleasure to work with! We felt that she really cared about us, she wanted my daughter to be the most beautiful bride and to feel happy and comfortable on her wedding day. Selena was friendly, kind and most important fantastic at her craft! The major alteration was shortening a lace scalloped hem; but there was also major re-work to be done on the bodice. I think we had 4 ( or 5) fittings- Selena wanted to make sure the fit was perfect! If you are looking for a seamstress who can do anything with material, give Selena a call. You will not regret it! The only thing I felt bad about was saying good -bye when we left the last fitting; but I will be back if I ever need alterations! Thank you Selena! Posted By: Mary K. |
I came to Selene with my wedding dress and was looking to have it altered into a gown. Selene totally understand what my vision was and had great suggestions to make the dress look less bridal. I couldn't be happier with the end result. She is very talented and I knew the dress was in excellent hands. If you're looking for dress alterations she is excellent! Posted By: Allison I. |
I can't say enough good things about working with Selene. I first discovered her about 7 years ago when I bought a few dresses on sale that were gorgeous, but they didn't fit properly. I knew I wanted to invest in some decent tailoring since the dresses were still expensive so came to Selene based off of some good yelp reviews- and I wasn't disappointed. She made alterations to these dresses and made them fit PERFECTLY and they're still the best fitting dresses in my closet to this day. Many years down the line, when I finally found my wedding dress, I turned down the option of getting it tailored by the shop I purchased it at and came right to Selene. Despite the fact that I've been in the fashion industry for the past 10 years, I didn't recognize that the dress I had picked out for myself was far too long for my 5'2 silhouette, and no tailoring could fix this- or so I thought. Selene worked tirelessly and must have fitted me 4 times, completely taking apart my dress and reconstructing it until it fit like a glove. I can't even tell you how ill-fitting it was and only wish I had a before picture to prove the amount of love and labor that went into this tailoring. The fabric was so sensitive and even the train made it pull in awkward areas and sag in others. But she figured out how to make it work! Thank you so much, Selene!!! No work compares to you and I look forward to working with you for many years to come! Posted By: Jack G. |
Thank you so much to Selene for the professional gown alteration that she did. I had a party one week from the time that I contacted her. I needed to have a voluminous gown altered to fit my petite 4'10" frame. My previous alterations place closed down so I wanted to find someone in Manhattan that was not my usual tailor from the dry cleaning business. Selene was just wonderful. She took the time to ask me what I wanted/envisioned. One week later, the dress was the perfect length, the straps that I had asked to be added was added and overall, I felt like a princess. Thank you so much! I shall be back! Posted By: Jocelyn B. |
